This posting covers three engineering tracks within Project NOVA — Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial/Process — each helping bridge the gap between engineering and AI innovation. As an AI & ML Intern, you'll apply your technical expertise to guide model selection and ensure AI solutions meet real-world engineering needs. Candidates should indicate their preferred track(s) when applying.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial/Process Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or Java; solid coding experience required.
  • Experience with AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate real-world engineering needs into technical specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • OpenFOAM or fluid-structure interaction experience is a bonus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify AI/ML opportunities and gather data requirements.
  • Design, build, and deploy AI/ML models.
  • Analyze large datasets to extract insights, trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
  • Document development processes, methodologies, and results for project reports.
  • Present findings to stakeholders using visualizations and reports.
  • Stay current with AI/ML advancements and bridge engineering and AI requirements.
  • Foundational understanding of finite element analysis — structural dynamics, modal analysis, eigenvalue problems, and mode shapes.
  • Proficient in Python with hands-on experience using NumPy and SciPy for numerical data processing.
  • Experience with 3D visualization libraries — PyVista, Matplotlib, or Plotly.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques using Azure Machine Learning.
  • Knowledge of Azure cloud platforms.
  • Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone).
  • Analyze production and operational processes to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks.
  • Assist in designing AI/ML algorithms to optimize industrial processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ability to translate customer needs into technical specifications.
