This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems. The AI/ML Engineering Intern will support the development, testing, and deployment of machine learning models and AI-driven solutions. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and data scientists, this role contributes to real-world projects involving data processing, model experimentation, and software integration. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and eager to learn modern AI and machine learning techniques in a practical, collaborative environment.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Foundational knowledge of machine learning concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, model evaluation, and feature engineering
Experience with Python and ML libraries such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch
Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and basic software engineering practices
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus

Responsibilities

Assist in designing, training, and evaluating machine learning models for various business use cases
Support data collection, preprocessing, cleaning, and feature engineering tasks
Help build scalable ML pipelines and contribute to model deployment efforts
Conduct research on new algorithms, frameworks, and tools to improve model performance
Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into applications or systems
Participate in code reviews, documentation, and agile development processes
Analyze results, prepare reports, and present findings to project stakeholders
Troubleshoot issues and help optimize existing models or workflows
