AI/ML Engineer

GSK•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

GSK is seeking an accomplished Machine Learning Engineer to develop AI products and solutions that support the discovery of molecular mechanisms of disease and accelerate new therapies. The role involves designing and engineering agentic systems and machine learning models using frontier models, foundational genomics models, and multiomics data from patients and laboratory experiments. The work will inform understanding of disease, drug design and response, and longevity. The position is open to machine learning engineers with a record of excellence in any domain and a desire to learn. Strong candidates have shipped high-performing AI/ML products, demonstrate academic excellence, and are passionate about solving challenging AI and machine learning problems. Biological sciences education and experience with genomics or RNA biology are helpful but not required; a passion for helping develop therapies and a pattern of continuous learning are required. The team emphasizes ownership, accountability, continuous development, and collaboration, and its leaders are committed to employees’ career development.

Requirements

  • Degree in a quantitative or engineering discipline, such as computer science, bioengineering, physics, mathematics, or electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with LLM agents, evaluations, and agentic workflow design.
  • Experience with at least one major deep learning framework, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Programming expertise in Python.
  • Experience using Git, SQL, and shell scripting in an AI/ML engineering stack.
  • Experience applying machine learning best practices.
  • Passion for helping develop therapies for new and existing diseases and a pattern of continuous learning and development.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship experience as a researcher in an AI/ML-focused academic lab, or experience as an AI/ML engineer or software engineer in industry.
  • Experience working with biomedical datasets, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, electronic health records, or clinical images.
  • Track record of contributing to open-source projects.
  • Familiarity or experience with genomics and RNA biology.
  • Education in the biological sciences.
  • A mentality of committing early and often, using metrics before models, and shipping high-quality production code.

Responsibilities

  • Imagine and engineer agentic systems and machine learning models to elucidate molecular mechanisms of disease and accelerate development of new therapies.
  • Work with frontier models, foundational genomics models, and multiomics data from patients and laboratory experiments.
  • Model aspects of molecular biology and medicinal chemistry to inform understanding of disease, drug design and response, and longevity.
  • Develop and ship high-performing AI/ML products and production code.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus.
  • Eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program, depending on role level.
  • Health care and other insurance benefits for employees and their families.
  • Retirement benefits.
  • Paid holidays.
