About The Position

The Home Depot Canada Internship/Co-op Program offers a 16-week opportunity to apply classroom learning in a dynamic, hands-on environment. Interns will work on impactful projects, sharpen their skills, and build confidence for their future careers. The program includes comprehensive onboarding, strategic projects addressing real business challenges, project presentations to senior leadership, professional development sessions, and networking opportunities with peer mentors and leaders. HD Tech is a team of engineers, data scientists, and problem-solvers who build and maintain intelligent applications supporting customers and associates, forming the tech backbone for in-store experiences and operational efficiency. They focus on building data-driven solutions, from machine learning models to scalable tools with real ROI, powering store operations, predictive insights, and associate productivity. This role is for individuals passionate about machine learning, data, and building intelligent systems that drive real-world impact.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in implementing and fine tuning AI models.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
Experience with AI frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras).
Ability to work with both structured and unstructured data.
Strong problem-solving skills and creativity.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience with cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) related to AI and machine learning.
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling techniques.
Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in the AI community.
Experience with building and optimizing ingestion pipelines to efficiently process and manage large datasets.
Proficiency in training and fine-tuning ML models to achieve optimal performance.
Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines to enhance model capabilities by integrating retrieval mechanisms.
Experience with time series forecasting models to predict future trends based on historical data.
Familiarity with integrating and customizing open-source models to meet specific project requirements.
Ability to apply reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) to improve model performance through iterative feedback loops.
Capability to add features to multimodal models that can process and analyze multiple types of data (e.g., text, images, audio).
