About The Position

BigBear.ai is seeking a Mid-Level AI/LLM Developer to support the development and implementation of AI-focused initiatives and pilot efforts supporting the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). This role will contribute to the development of AI-enabled capabilities from concept through implementation and will work closely with technical and functional teams to design, develop, test, integrate, and deploy solutions. The ideal candidate has a strong software engineering background and hands-on experience developing applications that leverage artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Hands-on experience developing AI- or LLM-enabled applications
  • Strong software engineering and application development experience
  • Experience supporting solution design, development, testing, deployment, and integration
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and functional stakeholders
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS/TSA Moderate-Risk Public Trust or equivalent federal suitability determination
  • All applicants must currently reside in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python development
  • Experience with AWS serverless architectures
  • Experience with Amazon Bedrock or similar generative AI platforms
  • Experience working with large language models and prompt engineering
  • Experience with model evaluation and performance optimization
  • Experience developing and integrating APIs
  • Experience using AI-enabled development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies
  • Experience developing production-ready AI applications in a federal or enterprise environment
  • Existing or prior TSA/DHS Public Trust clearance is strongly preferred
  • Local to the Springfield, VA area is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement AI- and LLM-enabled applications and capabilities
  • Support AI pilot initiatives from initial concept through testing, integration, and deployment
  • Design and develop software solutions using Python and modern cloud technologies
  • Work with technical and functional stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Support API development, system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment activities
  • Develop and evaluate prompts and LLM-based solutions to improve application performance and usability
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve software development efficiency
  • Contribute to the development of production-ready AI solutions and technical documentation
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced environment supporting emerging technology initiatives
