About The Position

The AI Forward Deployed Engineer (AI FDE) is an embedded technical expert who works directly with insurance carrier claims, subrogation, and IT teams to design, build, integrate, deploy, and operate autonomous, agentic AI solutions. In this role, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge multi-agent AI engineering and real-world enterprise insurance systems, taking agentic workflows from initial discovery to live production within weeks. You will lead technical discovery, architecture, implementation, integration, evaluation, productionization, and handoff, translating complex customer workflows, data, infrastructure, and regulatory constraints into production AI systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data/software engineering or technical deployment, writing production-grade code (C#, Python, JavaScript, SQL or comparable) with a track record of scoping and delivering complex systems in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-based and multi-agent systems, prompting, orchestration, memory, and production safeguards like guardrails and human-in-the-loop review
  • Strong enterprise integration experience: APIs, databases, microservices, and unstructured document processing (OCR/parsing) against complex systems like claims or subrogation platforms (Guidewire, Arb. Forum)
  • Proven ability to work embedded with a customer's IT and business teams, holding technical conversations, adapting in the room, and communicating tradeoffs clearly
  • Comfort with startup ambiguity and travel (~50%) to carrier sites for discovery, deployment, and go-live

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Guidewire, Duck Creek, Snapsheet or similar claims management systems
  • Experience with Arbitration Forum eSubro Hub, TRS, or similar subrogation management systems
  • Prior experience in a forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or embedded implementation role

Responsibilities

  • Embed with strategic insurance customers to design and build high-impact applications and AI-powered workflows with Shift’s Multi-Agent solutions, taking projects from initial concept through production deployment.
  • Map insurance company’s claims workflows, define the impact metrics and guardrails that will define success, and assess their data, APIs, and systems for integration readiness.
  • Build and Configure existing multi-agent workflows for the carrier's specific processes, and integrate them to core claims systems, data sources, and document repositories.
  • Run the pilot on live claims, train adjusters and operations staff to work alongside the agents, and move the deployment into production.
  • Track agent accuracy and performance in production, tune prompts, tools, and guardrails based on real outcomes, and feed what you learn back into the platform so the next carrier deployment goes faster.
  • Serve as the insurance carrier's primary technical point of contact for the engagement — building the trust that turns into a long-term customer.

Benefits

  • Flexible remote and hybrid working options
  • Competitive Salary and a variable component tied to personal and company performance
  • Multiple Learning and Development opportunities, including Focus Fridays, a half-day each month to focus on learning and personal growth
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Mental health benefits
