To enhance our team we are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to help define and build the next generation of AI-powered learning experiences across our platform. We are looking for someone who loves solving AI and systems challenges end‑to‑end, can move quickly in a “startup inside a larger company” environment, and enjoys upskilling other engineers along the way.

As an AI Engineer, you will stand at the intersection of AI innovation and core product engineering. You aren't just implementing APIs; you are designing the future of how millions of people learn. You will serve as a technical bridge, turning ambitious AI concepts—like intelligent search and AI tutoring—into secure, scalable production systems.
In this role, you will Act with Ownership by raising the bar for AI engineering across Panopto, mentoring "classical" software engineers into "AI bridge engineers," and ensuring our technology delivers Clarity Over Complexity for every user. You'll also have opportunities to contribute to other initiatives that directly advance our core values and support you in elevating your craft.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction and architecture for AI-powered features across Panopto, with an emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and cost control.
• Lead the design and implementation of AI integrations (e.g., Anthropic, MCP, other LLM providers) and platform capabilities that can be reused across multiple product areas.
• Establish patterns and best practices for prompt design, evaluation workflows, safety guardrails, and observability for AI-driven features.
• Build end‑to‑end AI solutions: from exploring models and APIs to designing data flows, implementing services, and integrating into customer-facing experiences.
• Lead hands-on prototyping and delivery of AI-centric initiatives, helping turn emerging ideas into validated prototypes and guiding their evolution into scalable, production-ready systems across the Panopto platform.
• Own experiments and prototypes through to production-quality implementations, including performance, reliability, and monitoring.
• Act as a multiplier for other teams by pairing with engineers, reviewing designs, and sharing best practices for AI engineering and applied LLM usage.
• Help strong “classical” software engineers become “AI bridge engineers” who can work confidently with LLMs, evaluation, and data pipelines while maintaining solid software fundamentals.
• Contribute to internal documentation, examples, and reference implementations that make it easier for teams to adopt AI capabilities correctly and safely.
• Partner with product management to shape AI initiatives into clear problems, MVPs, and iterative delivery plans.
• Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure AI systems meet Panopto’s standards for security, privacy, compliance, and availability.
• Provide practical guidance on where automation and tooling are appropriate versus where organizational process or policy is the right solution.

Benefits

• The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $140,000 USD per year.
• This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of the compensation package.
