About The Position

Karsun Solutions is seeking an AI Engineer to support modernization of digital services and accelerate delivery of healthcare and benefits programs for Veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The role supports a program expanding the Digital Transformation Center’s ability to deliver enterprise applications using modern development frameworks, low-code and no-code platforms, and cloud-based SaaS and PaaS environments. The program serves a wide range of users across multiple concurrent products while maintaining reliability, security, and delivery speed in a complex enterprise platform environment.

The AI Engineer will design, implement, and maintain AI capabilities aligned with business objectives and operational baselines; integrate AI technologies across the DTC’s enterprise platforms; and apply AI-enabled development and quality practices within agile delivery teams. The role also leads enterprise AI integrations, provides technical guidance, educates teams on responsible and secure AI practices, and supports security and ATO documentation for AI components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, Operations Research, or a related field, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience; 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining AI capabilities in enterprise environments, including AI-assisted development, automation, or decision-support solutions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust background investigation.
• Available on contract award and willing to sign a letter of commitment.
• Must reside in one of the following states: CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, or VA.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Experience integrating large language models or generative AI services in a commercial cloud environment, such as AWS or Azure, for production use.
• Experience with AI features on Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, Pega, or Appian.
• Experience implementing AI in federal, healthcare, or other regulated environments, including FedRAMP or ATO processes.
• Proficiency in Python and modern MLOps or DevOps tooling, including GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain AI capabilities, including AI-assisted development, automation, and decision-support solutions, aligned with business objectives and operational baselines.
• Integrate AI technologies across DTC enterprise platforms, including Salesforce/MuleSoft, Microsoft Power Platform/Dynamics, Pega, Box, and Appian, using platform-native AI features and API-based integrations.
• Apply AI-enabled code generation, automated testing, configuration recommendations, and code quality analysis within agile delivery teams, with human oversight and accountability for every deliverable.
• Lead enterprise AI integrations, validate performance, provide technical guidance, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Educate teams on AI best practices, responsible use, and secure implementation, including protecting PII and PHI under HIPAA and VA privacy requirements.
• Support security and ATO documentation for AI components to clear DTC architecture and security approval gates.
