About The Position

Build is seeking an AI Engineer to enhance its agent harness, Dougie. Dougie currently executes workflows and grades outputs but does not learn from past runs to improve future performance. This role is crucial for closing that loop by integrating grading into execution, building a memory layer for continuous improvement, and ensuring Dougie performs reliably in production. The goal is to reduce human-in-the-loop time weekly and bridge the gap between demo capabilities and production reliability.

Requirements

• Experience building agentic systems that run unattended with real consequences attached.
• Treats memory, context, and retrieval as engineering problems rather than buzzwords.

Responsibilities

• Own and expand Dougie's capabilities end-to-end across Build's ontology for digital labor.
• Wire grading and evaluation directly into the execution path, so runs improve themselves.
• Build the memory layer that carries institutional context across sessions.
• Instrument human-in-the-loop time and drive it down deliberately.
• Improve agent orchestration, including planning, tool use, and recovery from partial failure.
• Build the feedback path from expert correction back into system behavior.
• Debug non-deterministic systems rigorously rather than by intuition.
• Own Dougie's behavior in production, including when it goes wrong.
