About The Position

BCBST is hiring an AI Engineer to design and implement AI-driven solutions that automate and enhance business and clinical processes, with a strong focus on scaling and operationalizing the Clinical ROI methodology. The role involves collaborating with business partners, clinical leaders, and technical teams to translate complex data and AI models into actionable insights for decision-making on program effectiveness, cost efficiency, and patient outcomes. This position directly supports the organization's measurement of value, performance improvement, and strategic investments in clinical initiatives. Successful candidates will have hands-on experience applying AI or machine learning to real-world business problems, experience automating business practices using AI, leading or contributing to AI-driven education/enablement projects, and the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Strong communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and business perspectives are critical. This is a remote, work-from-home position, but the final interview round will be on-site in Chattanooga, TN. Candidates must work aligned to Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

• Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or related field or equivalent work experience
• 3 years of relevant work experience in analytics, technology, or healthcare (academic experience included), or related equivalent experience
• 1 year experience with machine learning or advanced statistical methods
• Experience handling large datasets to build data science pipelines
• Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Pytorch, Natural Language Processing
• Proficient in Python
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers
• Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic
• Hands-on experience applying AI or machine learning to real-world business problems
• Strong communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and business perspectives

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Ideate, develop and productionalize AI solutions for healthcare payer use cases
• Design and implement state-of-the-art AI models and algorithms using Python and GCP Vertex AI
• Collaborate with product teams to identify opportunities for applying AI techniques to solve business challenges and automate processes
• Conduct research and stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, continuously improving our techniques and methodologies
• Develop scalable and efficient code base for deploying AI models into production environments
• Work closely with our internal Lines-of-Businesses to understand their needs, gather requirements, and translate them into actionable insights and solutions
• Lead the evaluation and validation of AI models, ensuring their accuracy, reliability, and performance meet business requirements
• Communicate findings, results, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders through presentations, reports, and documentation
