AI Community Manager

Snorkel AISan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Snorkel AI is seeking a Frontier AI Community Manager to build and nurture connections between Snorkel and individuals at the forefront of AI development, including researchers, post-training and evaluation leads, and data leaders at top global labs. This role involves designing and executing community-building initiatives such as intimate dinners, working sessions, and hackathons, moving beyond traditional event management. The Community Manager will cultivate an ongoing community that fosters connections among these professionals and with Snorkel, acting as a key listener for product and research feedback. This is a hands-on, build-the-playbook position based in San Francisco.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in community building, developer relations, technical event programming, experiential marketing, or similar roles targeting technical audiences (researchers, engineers, or sophisticated technical operators).
  • Prior experience running hackathons or technical jams.
  • Existing relationships in the SF AI/research community.
  • Technical fluency to read papers and structure programming around them.
  • A proven track record of building or growing a community/program from scratch (e.g., running a successful meetup, producing recurring executive/researcher dinners, building a developer community, or running a hackathon series).
  • Strong understanding of what makes a technical event high-signal versus sponsor-driven.
  • Comfort and credibility with researchers and AI lab employees, with the ability to read the room and earn trust quickly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in 1:1 outreach.
  • Self-direction and ownership, with the ability to build strategy and manage programs end-to-end.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce or equivalent) and a habit of tracking program outcomes.
  • Genuine interest in AI and a desire to contribute to a company shaping the future of AI development.

Nice To Haves

  • Existing relationships in the SF AI/research community.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute bespoke programs tailored for frontier AI lab audiences, including topical dinners, paper discussions, researcher-to-researcher working sessions, and workshops on data development and post-training.
  • Develop discussion frameworks, agendas, pre-reads, and seating arrangements to ensure high-signal gatherings.
  • Identify and recruit relevant individuals from AI labs by understanding their work and leveraging outreach, mutual connections, and existing community presence.
  • Design and run technical activations like hackathons and evaluation jams where Snorkel's data-centric work is showcased naturally.
  • Identify, engage, and develop relationships with highly involved researchers and lab operators to become speakers, contributors, and trusted voices.
  • Represent Snorkel in relevant online channels such as X, TBPN-adjacent internet spaces, technical Substacks, Discords, and GitHub, amplifying community members' work.
  • Act as a feedback loop by bringing community discussions, frustrations, and excitements back to product, research, and marketing teams.
  • Treat programs as experiments, tracking key metrics like return attendance, conversation depth, follow-up meetings, and downstream relationships/pipeline, and retiring ineffective formats.

Benefits

  • Meaningful opportunities to shape priorities and initiatives.
  • Influence key strategic decisions.
  • Direct impact on ongoing success.
  • Support for deepening technical expertise.
  • Support for exploring leadership opportunities.
  • Support for learning new skills across multiple functions.
  • Environment designed for growth, learning, and shared success.
  • Equal employment opportunities.
