AI Automation Engineer

Exer MedicalEl Segundo, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Exer Urgent Care is undertaking an AI and automation transformation across its finance, operations, and clinical-support functions, spearheaded by the Chief AI Officer. This role is for an early-career engineer who will act as a hands-on builder, capable of transforming concepts, sketches, or problem descriptions into functional automations rapidly. This is not a maintenance position; the engineer will collaborate directly with the CAIO on active build projects and assist in launching new ones, with significant autonomy and a streamlined process from ideation to deployment.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of professional software engineering experience, or a new graduate with strong internship experience.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Experience with React and Next.js.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Postgres).
  • Genuine curiosity about applied AI, including prompt engineering, LLM APIs, or agent frameworks (experience from personal projects is acceptable).
  • Comfort working with ambiguity, as project specifications may begin as planning documents or conversations rather than fully scoped tickets.
  • Ability to work independently once assigned a problem and to proactively identify and communicate blockers.
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Los Angeles area to work from Exer's corporate office.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to browser-automation or RPA-style tooling.
  • Experience with background job or workflow-orchestration systems.
  • Familiarity with deploying on Vercel or similar platforms.
  • Experience handling sensitive or regulated data (healthcare or finance), even from coursework or internships.

Responsibilities

  • Extend vendor coverage on an existing browser-automation pipeline for AP invoice automation, which involves logging into vendor portals, extracting invoices, and integrating them into finance systems.
  • Extract structured data from lease documents and reconcile it against landlord statements.
  • Build structured intake tools, AI-assisted workflows, and small internal applications that provide non-technical staff with user-friendly interfaces for AI-powered functionalities.
  • Manage data plumbing tasks, including database work, integrations with spreadsheets and workspace tools, connections to business intelligence systems, and linking data sources.
  • Develop fast, agile proofs of concept to validate automation ideas before committing to full-scale development.

Benefits

  • Full training on compliance constraints (HIPAA and related) provided on the job.
  • Direct line of sight from idea to production with minimal approval layers for small builds.
  • Broad exposure across finance, operations, and clinical-support automation.
  • Opportunity to work directly with the Chief AI Officer on a funded transformation program.
  • Potential for growth into ownership of full initiatives as the program and team expand.
