AI Architect

Cherry BekaertAiken, SC
$165,000 - $214,000

About The Position

Ranked among the largest accounting and consulting firms in the country and consistently recognized as a Great Place to Work, Cherry Bekaert delivers innovative advisory, assurance and tax services to our clients. We are proud to foster a collaborative environment focused on enabling your career growth and continuous professional development. This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering and professional services workflow design. The right candidate does not need an accounting background but brings the curiosity and pattern-recognition ability to learn Tax, Assurance, Advisory and Wealth Management domains fast enough to design solutions that professionals trust. Look for experience at implementation consultancies, PE-backed firms or technology teams that have shipped AI workflows into production — not just built prototypes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience in AI/ML, prompt engineering, workflow automation or solutions architecture, with three or more years designing and shipping AI systems into production at scale.
  • Experience at an implementation consultancy, PE-backed firm or technology organization serving professional services is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
  • Strong technical proficiency in prompt engineering, large language model capabilities, agentic AI workflow design and system integration — with hands-on experience designing solutions that non-technical users adopt at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to build reusable, modular AI infrastructure (prompt libraries, skill frameworks, workflow templates) that moves from prototype to production and survives contact with real users.
  • Track record of translating complex business processes into structured AI-assisted workflows, with measurable results in production environments rather than lab settings.
  • Technical depth across AI/ML platforms relevant to professional services (e.g., Anthropic Claude, Microsoft Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock) with hands-on build and integration experience.
  • Strong analytical abilities, particularly in evaluating AI output quality, identifying failure modes, designing guardrails and building testing frameworks that catch problems before users do.
  • Rapid domain-learning ability — the curiosity and pattern recognition to understand Tax, Assurance, Advisory and Wealth Management workflows deeply enough to design contextually accurate AI solutions.
  • Communication skills that bridge technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to explain architectural trade-offs to business leaders and write documentation that junior engineers can follow.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an implementation consultancy, PE-backed firm or technology organization serving professional services is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and maintains the Firm’s prompt architecture, establishing standards for prompt structure, versioning, chain-of-thought patterns, testing protocols and quality assurance across all service lines.
  • Builds reusable skill frameworks and workflow templates that translate Tax, Assurance, Advisory and Wealth Management processes into structured AI-assisted workflows professionals can adopt without CoE intervention.
  • Develops integration patterns connecting AI capabilities with the Firm’s enterprise systems, collaboration platforms, document management tools and data infrastructure.
  • Creates and curates service-line-specific prompt libraries, collaborating with domain professionals to capture institutional knowledge in formats that scale beyond individual use cases.
  • Provides architectural direction and technical mentorship to Prompt + Skills Engineers, setting build standards, reviewing output quality and creating the technical development path for internal talent.
  • Designs validated use case playbooks that Ambassadors can carry to their practice teams, including structured demonstrations, step-by-step implementation guides and clear escalation criteria.
  • Partners with service line leaders and subject matter advisors to identify high-value automation opportunities — prioritizing use cases where AI creates the largest gap between current manual effort and achievable throughput.
  • Evaluates AI platforms, tools and emerging techniques (including agentic workflows, multi-step reasoning and tool-use patterns) through proof-of-concept testing before recommending production deployment.
  • Establishes testing and validation protocols for AI outputs, including accuracy benchmarking, hallucination detection, edge case coverage and compliance with the Firm’s quality and risk standards.
  • Documents architectural decisions, maintains design standards and builds the CoE’s technical knowledge base — the foundation that allows the team to onboard new engineers and scale without losing consistency.
  • Collaborates with Information Security and the AI Governance Council to confirm that all deployed workflows meet the Firm’s data privacy, security and responsible-use requirements.
  • Stays current with the competitive landscape, tracking what peer firms are shipping in AI-assisted tax, audit and advisory delivery and identifying architectural patterns Cherry Bekaert should adopt or improve upon.
