About The Position

Change.org is seeking an AI Architect to join their Engineering team. This role will report to the CTO and will serve as the org-wide technical owner for AI adoption, influencing and collaborating with every engineering team. Change.org is the world's largest platform for democracy, investing heavily in AI to build tools that empower people and foster common ground solutions. The company is rapidly growing its core petitions platform and launching a new platform to identify and mobilize people around common-ground issues. The team is expanding to include talented individuals at the intersection of technology and social impact, focused on building healthier democracies globally.

Requirements

  • Deep, current hands-on experience building with LLMs and agentic systems.
  • Track record designing and evolving systems in large, mature codebases (multi-million line, many-service environments).
  • Sufficient recent, real shipping experience to be considered a peer by senior engineers.
  • Experience writing technical standards or guidance that other engineers have adopted.
  • Comfort making decisions on where autonomous AI action is safe and defending those decisions.
  • Proven ability to drive org-wide technical change as an individual contributor, influencing teams without direct management authority.
  • Ability to communicate effectively between deep technical details and executive-level narratives.
  • Professional-level English proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading an AI or developer-productivity transformation at a similar-scale engineering organization.
  • Experience building or operating evaluation pipelines for AI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the standards, architecture patterns, and tooling choices for AI adoption across the codebase.
  • Develop and execute the AI-Native Transformation roadmap, partnering with squad leads.
  • Determine and oversee the build of necessary AI tooling, agent infrastructure, and evaluation pipelines.
  • Establish policy and technical controls for safe AI adoption, balancing adoption speed with security and quality risks.
  • Author and enforce technical standards and guidance for AI usage, such as AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md conventions, review norms for AI-generated code, and evaluation standards.
