This opportunity is intended for conversion to a full-time role that will not offer work authorization sponsorship in the future (full-time conversion pending performance evaluation post internship and available headcount). Interested candidates must be currently eligible to work in the US AND must not require work authorization sponsorship in the future. Our internships have a thoughtful balance of networking, executive speakers, community involvement, big meaty projects (no paper filing here!) and fun!The AI Applied Engineering Intern will support the optimization of HP’s Agentic AI ecosystem for edge devices. The intern will focus on improving the inference layer to enhance AI model performance, efficiency, responsiveness, and deployment on resource-constrained hardware. The role combines software engineering, machine learning, and system design to evaluate AI workflows, identify performance bottlenecks, and develop practical optimization solutions. The intern will collaborate with engineering and strategy teams while using AI development tools such as Codex, Copilot, and Claude.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
  • Has no more than 24 months of prior work experience professionally related to the intern requisition they are applying to (not including internships, teaching assistance, research work, or military experience)
  • Able to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2027, and not require sponsorship in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize AI inference workflows for edge-device environments.
  • Analyze latency, memory usage, computational efficiency, and model performance.
  • Identify bottlenecks within agentic AI architectures.
  • Develop and test software prototypes and optimization approaches.
  • Support the integration of AI models and agents with edge hardware.
  • Document findings, technical designs, and performance recommendations.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, AI, and strategy stakeholders.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging.
