About The Position

The E. V. Smith Research Center in Shorter, Alabama is seeking candidates for Agriculture Technician positions to perform basic level farm and technical research tasks related to beef cattle in support of ongoing research activities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
1 year of experience in farming practices (for Level II).
4 years of experience in farming practices (for Level III).
6 years of experience in farming practices (for Level IV).
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection is required.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Responsibilities

General farm and cattle duties.
Performing day-to-day animal husbandry tasks such as providing food and water.
Cleaning animal enclosures and facilities.
Assisting with breeding procedures, and maintaining proper research data.
Observing animals, as well as identifying and reporting concerns about their health status or well being.
Performing general maintenance on equipment, buildings, and fences.
Operating equipment such as tractors, feed mixers, fence sprayers, etc.
Duties are often required to be performed in inclement weather in all seasons and occasionally on holidays and weekends.
