About The Position

The Agriculture Teacher is responsible for directing and evaluating the learning experiences of students in all school-sponsored activities. This role involves interpreting and executing school SBDM and Board of Education policies and regulations to students, parents, and the community. The teacher will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in grades seven through twelve.

Requirements

  • Certification by Kentucky Department of Education with proper endorsement.
  • Responsible experience in teaching and supervision, or any equivalent combination of experience or training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern public school secondary education and the ability to apply them.
  • Knowledge of the mission, goals, and organization of public education.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory as they relate to content, curriculum, materials, and instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of adolescent growth and development.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and student needs.
  • Ability to utilize multimedia and computer technology as appropriate.
  • Ability to move about to monitor students and check work in classrooms.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with the entire school community.
  • Commitment to education reform.
  • Ability to be flexible to adjust the instructional program to any unanticipated interruptions/changes.
  • Sound knowledge of the content area(s) taught.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an orderly learning atmosphere and keeps the Principal informed of the general education program's activities and problems.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, prioritizing basic academic skills, consistent with available resources and student needs.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and multimedia/computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Teaches content subject areas according to the adopted course of study and school's SBDM Council.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law and district regulations.
  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and appropriate tasks, providing individualized and small group instruction.
  • Prepares, presents, and evaluates learning materials, and tries innovative instructional techniques.
  • Takes an active part in the professional development program and participates in curriculum and extra-curricular activities planning and evaluation.
  • Maintains professional competence through professional development activities and self-selected growth activities.
  • Assists in the selection of books, software, equipment, and instructional materials, and stays updated on new trends in education reform.
  • Works cooperatively with administration, other teachers, support personnel, and the SBDM Council in planning instructional goals, methods, and evaluation.
  • Collaborates with other professionals (e.g., guidance counselors, librarians) for schoolwide instructional activities.
  • Assists resource teachers/coordinators, Title I teachers/coordinators, gifted education teachers/coordinators, and other teachers/coordinators in identifying students for supplemental educational programs.
  • Determines factors contributing to low academic performance and makes necessary referrals for specialized instructional help.
  • Counsels and evaluates students to promote their welfare, self-esteem, and educational development.
  • Assesses student abilities related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • Evaluates student progress regularly using various assessment methods and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Administers group standardized tests and the KIRIS assessment according to district and state guidelines.
  • Instructs and assists students and/or other teachers in creating quality portfolio entries and completing/scoring portfolios.
  • Utilizes teaching strategies that incorporate activities to enhance performance events and open-response assessments.
  • Communicates with students about instructional expectations and their progress.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress and interpret the school program.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes, including before or after school.
  • Assumes responsibility for classroom management by establishing and maintaining consistent classroom organization.
  • Creates a safe, disciplined, and effective learning environment with functional and attractive displays and accessible materials.
  • Assesses resources such as student interests, facilities, funds, equipment, and audio-visual aides for an operative program.
  • Participates in school-based decision-making, including serving on the Council and providing input on school operations.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct, and develops reasonable classroom rules.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains proper inventories of non-expendable school supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board of Education policies.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and Board policies.
  • Establishes and maintains consistent classroom standards of pupil behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Shares assigned duties and supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Observes the approved 'chain of command' for airing grievances and communicating suggestions.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants and/or parent volunteers, if applicable.
  • Attends faculty meetings and Parent/Teacher Organization meetings, and serves on assigned committees.
  • Actively sponsors a student organization as assigned.
  • Supports or participates in schoolwide student activities, social events, and approved fund-raising activities.
  • Maintains the highest professional standards in personal conduct.
  • Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
