Agriculture Services Inspector 1(Shipping Point)
About The Position
The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is recruiting for an Agriculture Services Inspector 1 position within the Agriculture Services Division. This role will be based in the Hermiston Shipping Point Inspection district and will be responsible for agricultural inspections, sample collection, and field inspections to support the local agricultural community. The position contributes to the department’s mission of safeguarding Oregon's agriculture, natural resources, working lands, economies, and communities through assistance, compliance, and market support. The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) focuses on ensuring healthy natural resources, environment, and economy for Oregonians through inspection and certification, regulation, and promotion of agriculture and food. Requirements
- One season of experience as a shipping point inspector aide.
- OR One year of experience in a commercial fruit or vegetable growing, grading, or marketing enterprise.
- A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to regularly lift objects 50 – 60 lbs.
Nice To Haves
- General knowledge of Oregon agriculture and inspection processes.
- Basic knowledge of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to keep accurate written records of inspection activities and fee collections.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of people to obtain or provide information.
- Willingness to relocate to Hermiston, OR if not currently living in the area.
Responsibilities
- Provide shipping point inspections, phytosanitary inspections, official sampling and witnessing.
- Provide other services to assist customers in moving agricultural products.
- Conduct field inspections.
- Process samples.
- Conduct surveys for exotic insects or pathogens.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Agriculture Services Division or agency.
