About The Position

Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking an Agriculture Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the repair and maintenance of receiving station equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of machine design, operation, and maintenance. The Agriculture Department receives 425,000 grower truckloads that deliver 7,000,000 tons of sugarbeets annually across 70 receiving stations. Specialized equipment at each station, referred to as sugarbeet pilers, are used to unload and remove dirt or debris from the sugarbeets before being stockpiled until processing at factory locations into granulated sugar and other products.

Requirements

  • Background in machinery maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electric, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis to identify failure modes.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience overseeing mechanical tradesmen.
  • Familiarity with Union collective bargaining agreements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications.
  • Mechanical or electrical technical degree preferred, or equivalent job experience that exhibits a strong understanding of machine design, operation, and maintenance.

  • Experience with JD Edwards Integrated Business Systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Hold safety as the top priority in the work environment; participate in the Agriculture Safety Committee overseeing safety initiatives for the Agriculture Department.
  • Direct supervision of Agriculture Mechanics, Electricians, and Machinists.
  • Strategic planning of maintenance, upgrades, and replacements of sugarbeet pilers, piling grounds, scales and scale houses, and service trucks and trailers in the respective district.
  • Project management of capital improvements to receiving station or shop equipment.
  • Work with Local Union leadership and HR departments for union bid job placement and disciplinary issues in accordance with the Union collective bargaining agreement.
  • Accurately maintain the annual maintenance budget and expenditure reports to monitor budget-to-actual spend through the harvest and maintenance cycles.
  • Establish and uphold good housekeeping measures across shop and receiving stations.
  • Work closely with the Agriculture Maintenance Manager, the Agriculture Capital Manager, and District Agricultural Managers to identify necessary equipment upgrades or replacements.
