About The Position

The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Water Quality Division is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Assistant Director. This position is for a strategic thinker with strong leadership, project management, and communication skills. Management and program/policy development experience is preferred. Candidates must have a strong understanding of how to interpret state and federal statutes and rule-making processes. The work associated with this position will be dynamic, fast-paced, and complex. A primary responsibility of this position is accountability towards reductions in agricultural water quality non-point source pollution, which is a high priority for Vermont. The Assistant Director will supervise multiple teams within the Division and must work across the Agency with other divisions to ensure consistent delivery of services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in agriculture, biological, plant or soil science, chemistry, public policy or other closely related science AND one (1) year or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized program, office, department or agency
  • OR Bachelor's degree in agriculture, biological, plant or soil science, chemistry, public policy or other closely related science AND three (3) years or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderately sized program, office, department or agency
  • OR Seven (7) years or more of professional level experience in program development, analysis or budgeting INCLUDING one (1) year or more supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized program, office, department or agency
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of how to interpret state and federal statutes and rule-making processes

  • Experience in developing and implementing educational and outreach programs and regulatory programs in relation to water quality initiatives
