Agricultural Technician
About The Position
Under the direction of the Superintendent and/or Farm Manager, the Agricultural Technician will be responsible for operating a tractor, planter/no-till drill, chainsaws, and various farm implements. This role involves making hay, harvesting crops, performing minor facilities maintenance, and fence repair. Experience working with cattle, including calving, breeding, and moving cattle, is also required. The technician will perform other tasks as assigned for the overall operation of the AREC, adhering to policies pertaining to the general maintenance of all vehicles, equipment, and implements, and will inform the Superintendent and/or Farm Manager of any problems that arise. Virginia Tech is unable to sponsor work visas for this position.
Requirements
- Experience with livestock and/or crop production.
- Experience in operating agricultural equipment and vehicles.
- Experience or ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift 75 pounds or more.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working as a team member.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of pasture maintenance and management.
- Experience with precision ag technology.
