Research Specialist Hybrid
About The Position
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Agricultural Research Specialist (Hybrid) for the Cherry Research Station. This role will manage assigned research projects and the technical, mechanical, and infrastructure resources necessary to support the station's research platform. The position involves managing research projects related to agricultural crop and/or livestock production, supervising research technicians and seasonal staff, handling human resources for assigned staff, and providing administrative and public relations support. A significant part of the role involves serving as a maintenance mechanic, ensuring all equipment and infrastructure for research projects are properly maintained, performing basic vehicle and farm equipment repairs, and conducting basic carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
Requirements
- Knowledge of agricultural crop and/or livestock production.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, repair, calibration and capabilities of equipment, implements and infrastructure found on an agricultural research station.
- Ability to work in close proximity to livestock, including beef and dairy cattle.
- Ability to use hand tools and performance of basic carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
- Physical requirements include the ability to perform long periods of repetitive reaching, stooping, standing, bending and lifting of 50 lbs in a variety of work environments.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Non-Excepted Intrastate) or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment.
- Public Pesticide Applicator License or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment.
- Forklift Driver Certificate issued by the Research Division or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment.
- Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
