Position Summary: Mixes and applies wet and /or dry fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or insecticides via sprays, dusts, vapors, soil incorporation or chemical application on farm fields and crops. Maintains equipment and facilities, trains less experienced applicators, takes inventory of product and occasionally sell agronomy products.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • State Individual Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required.
  • Certified Pesticide Operator’s license as a minimum.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience with application equipment.
  • CDL Class A with Hazmat, tanker, doubles/triples endorsements.
  • Knowledge of farming practices.
  • Working knowledge of application equipment.
  • Ability to builds customer relationships by listening to the needs of customers, understanding their point of view, and communicating deliverables.
  • Ability to organize work and plan a path to the desired outcome and efficiently allocates time to complete work.
  • Ability to take pride and ownership in the maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information, consider the consequences, and arrives at a timely decision that meets organizational goals.
  • Ability to recognize a problem or potential problem.

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified Supervisor’s License preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months

Responsibilities

  • Mixes and applies wet and/or dry fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or insecticides via sprays, dusts, vapors, soil incorporation or chemical application on farm fields and crops.
  • Maintains equipment and facilities.
  • Trains less experienced applicators.
  • Takes inventory of product.
  • Occasionally sells agronomy products.
  • Application of wet, dry and vapor agronomy products to soil and vegetation.
  • Engages and runs application machinery.
  • Covers areas to specified fields, applying knowledge of weather conditions, amount needed and obstructions.
  • Adjusts hoses, nozzles, and tubes to account for terrain, distribution pattern, type of material applied and velocities.
  • Mixes chemical and fertilizers according to formulas.
  • Estimates quantities and time needed to complete each field or assignment.
  • Determines whether the work complies with laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Sets up machinery to direct application over designated areas.
  • Cleans and services machinery to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Inspects machine daily.
  • Reports all machinery malfunctions and ensures that repairs are completed.
  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments in the field.
  • Assists in keeping all equipment and facilities in good order.
  • During the off season, assist the mechanic with major repairs, paint equipment and facilities, and perform other maintenance duties as directed.
  • Assist in the movement and accounting of inventory.
  • Maintain logs of driving time, areas and product applied and any other data required by management.
  • Submit records for billing on a timely basis.
  • Communicate with customers regarding the application process and materials used.
  • Answer questions or direct the customer to the appropriate person.
