About The Position

This position is a skilled, safety‑critical role requiring advanced knowledge of asphalt plant operations, combustion systems, and material processing. The operator is responsible for controlling and monitoring the asphalt production process, including the manual operation of the burner and open‑flame combustion systems, to safely produce asphalt that meets company and customer specifications. The role demands constant situational awareness, sound judgment, and strict adherence to safety procedures due to the inherent risks associated with extreme heat, pressurized fuel systems, and combustible materials.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of Plant Operator experience
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate and control industrial burners or combustion systems involving open flame and high temperatures
  • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical equations as applicable
  • Strong judgment and decision‑making skills required when working under high‑risk conditions with minimal margin for error
  • Able to work independently while having a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work early in the mornings, evenings, nights and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures
  • Ability to safely operate and control asphalt plant’s system involving extreme heat involving open flame, conveyors, dryers, screens, fuels, and heavy equipment, including safely starting and shutting down the plant
  • Ability to identify confined space hazards, such as with silos and baghouses
  • Monitor system performance for appropriate pressures to avoid fire risk from fuel systems and dust
  • Manage high‑risk conditions associated with open flame, extreme heat, pressurized fuel systems, and combustible materials, always exercising heightened situational awareness
  • Ability to monitor production levels, adjust production as needed (such as mix design changes), promptly identify plant malfunctions with pressures, temperatures and material
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and/or assisting/coordinating with any type of maintenance to ensure equipment is properly maintained and serviced as needed
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the quality control team for meeting mix designs, specifications, and testing
  • Control inventory of materials and maintain accurate production logs, inventory records, and compliance documentation
  • Order/communicate aggregate, oil, and material needs for upcoming work
