About The Position

Jiffy.com is hiring an individual-contributor software engineer at the Senior, Staff, or Principal level to deliver end-to-end features across its e-commerce platform, including the storefront, checkout, internal tools, and platform services. The role reports directly to an Engineering Manager and partners with Product, General Managers, and other cross-functional teams. Engineers direct AI coding agents rather than hand-write production code: agents produce, test, review, and deploy code under human direction. The engineer will orchestrate several AI-driven work streams in parallel, make architectural and judgment calls, critically review agent output, and help shape Jiffy's AI-native engineering practices. The position spans a stack that includes Rails 8 and Solidus, GraphQL APIs, a React 19 frontend, and Kubernetes infrastructure. It also involves developing internal AI tooling and shared skills and rules, maintaining production quality and reliability, and mentoring engineers in agent orchestration. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer visa sponsorship. The role requires relocation to Miami, as indicated in the job title.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience shipping production systems at scale.
  • Mandatory hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent as a primary development tool; must be able to discuss work delivered through agent orchestration rather than occasional autocomplete.
  • Proven ability to run multiple agents in parallel and manage concurrent work streams while maintaining quality, context, and accountability.
  • Strong software design fundamentals, including object-oriented design, API design, data modeling, distributed-system reliability, and performance.
  • Proficiency in at least one server-side language (Ruby, Python, Go, Java, or equivalent) and one modern frontend stack (React/TypeScript or equivalent).
  • Experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL, SQL, and building or consuming REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Excellent code-review skills, including the ability to read, critique, and correct diffs quickly.
  • Strong written communication, including clear specifications, pull request descriptions, and prompts.
  • High integrity, accountability, ownership, and commitment to excellence.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous, high-autonomy environment.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience authoring or extending AI developer tooling, such as custom skills, slash commands, MCP servers, sub-agents, evaluation harnesses, or team prompt libraries.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and Solidus/Spree or other large-scale e-commerce platforms.
  • Experience with React 19, TypeScript, GraphQL (Apollo), Tailwind, and modern state management such as React Query, XState, or Jotai.
  • Experience operating services on Kubernetes, including Istio, KEDA, or Flagger, and modern observability stacks.
  • Experience driving agents to maintain and extend test suites using Playwright, Vitest, and RSpec.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers on AI-native workflows, publishing internal patterns, or leading an organization away from manual coding.
  • Documented improvements in features per week, cycle time, or review time attributable to AI adoption.
  • Experience shipping in a fast-paced, agile environment at a high-growth startup or technology company.

Responsibilities

  • Orchestrate Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or other AI coding agents across 3–6 concurrent work streams using worktrees, sub-agents, and background tasks.
  • Own features end-to-end: translate product intent into specifications, create agent-executable plans, direct implementation, review diffs, run QA, land pull requests, and verify production health.
  • Design and architect scalable, reliable systems across Rails 8/Solidus, GraphQL, React 19, and Kubernetes, making architectural decisions agents cannot make.
  • Review and improve AI-generated code by catching hallucinated APIs, enforcing secure and idiomatic patterns, and rejecting structurally unsound implementations.
  • Build and evolve internal AI tooling, including skills, rules, prompts, MCP integrations, and evaluation harnesses.
  • Contribute to the shared .ai/ skills and rules library.
  • Maintain production rigor by driving meaningful test coverage, monitoring deployments, responding to incidents, and owning shipped services.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Ops, and engineering teams to define and ship features; participate in architecture and code reviews.
  • Mentor engineers on AI-native workflows and orchestration patterns.
  • Identify remaining manual work, such as QA, operations runbooks, data investigations, and migrations, that can be automated with agents.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with a portion of premiums paid by Jiffy.
  • 401(k).
  • Annual wellness benefits.
  • Choice of MacBook or PC laptop, plus home-office equipment.
  • Annual $200 credit for use on Jiffy's website and team merchandise.
  • Annual professional-development stipend.
  • Total compensation may include performance-based bonuses and equity.
