Agent Data Scientist

DecagonSan Francisco, CA
$165,000 - $215,000Onsite

About The Position

Decagon is seeking an Agent Data Scientist to join their Agent Product Management team. This role focuses on supporting large and complex deployments and broader customer data needs. The position is highly cross-functional, offering wide scope and compounding work where defined metrics and built frameworks influence future deals and product roadmaps. The primary leverage comes from enabling the rest of the organization to better demonstrate product value, allowing the team to focus on novel measurement problems and influence the product roadmap. The role requires a blend of quantitative rigor, executive advisory presence, and founder-like ownership, focusing on owning metrics rather than just reporting them. This is a senior individual contributor role where high-stakes decisions are made independently.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data science, analytics, or another quantitative role driving analyses end-to-end and influencing decisions (high-growth tech, consulting, or forward-deployed/solutions roles).
  • Exceptional judgment in interpreting metrics, with an ability to foresee edge cases and understand different perspectives.
  • 80/20 intuition on prioritizing important analyses over analyzing everything.
  • Comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous situations, shaping the approach as much as implementing it.
  • Ability to identify and defend the best available option when faced with a question without an established right answer.
  • Strong independence, setting priorities against a broad mandate and bringing decisions.
  • Comfort defining work rather than receiving it.
  • Ability to align stakeholders on a shared definition of success, even with differing priorities and technical depth.
  • Strong technical fundamentals, including fluency in SQL and Python.
  • Comfort working with large volumes of messy, unstructured conversational data.

Nice To Haves

  • History of building internal tooling with meaningful adoption.
  • Judgment to recognize when a problem should remain a one-off.
  • Experience working on AI products in production.
  • Experience evaluating LLM or agent behavior and building those evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers to define metrics for performance measurement and operationalize them for trust and usability.
  • Own the delivery of metrics, ensuring transparent data access to reinforce customer narratives.
  • Improve key metrics on accounts by diagnosing performance drivers, designing experiments, and driving changes.
  • Scope and build product features, tools, and frameworks to empower the Decagon team.
  • Define success for new initiatives with no precedent.
  • Run feedback loops into Product, Engineering, and Research to shape the product based on learnings from demanding deployments.
  • Establish what should be measured and build the systems to produce it, focusing on driving alignment.
  • Report on performance and work to improve it alongside Agent Product Managers, Agent Strategy Managers, Strategic Account Directors, and Agent Deployment Engineers.
