The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Bureau of Labor Law sets and enforces the prevailing and living wage, and benefit rates for workers, laborers, and mechanics employed on New York City Public Work projects as well as building service employees on City contracts and certain properties that receive tax exemptions, in accordance with its mandate under state law. The goal of the Worker’s Rights Bureau is to build upon the work that the BLL already does to combat wage theft to expand worker’s rights and enforcement through legislation, policy, procurement, and corporate shareholder engagement initiatives, while strengthening the office’s outreach strategies to educate New Yorkers on their labor rights. We are seeking a motivated law graduate to assist the Bureau of Labor Law in its enforcement of prevailing wage laws. The law graduate will manage their own caseload of investigations and perform litigation work under the guidance of their Supervising Attorney.
