The Professional Standards Division of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) is seeking a qualified Agency Attorney III. This division assists the Department in achieving its objectives by developing and implementing compliance mechanisms, conducting objective evaluations to reduce risk and improve operations, and devising corrective solutions for non-compliance. The role involves ensuring individual and institutional compliance with Department policy, applicable laws, and external oversight. The division also assesses the effectiveness of training and policy in risk reduction and conducts other independent evaluations as directed by the Deputy Commissioner, Legal Matters. In partnership with the Training Bureau and Deputy Commissioner, Legal Matters, this position will implement recommendations from oversight bodies, including developing training programs and corrective solutions. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Compliance and Development. The division is seeking a qualified candidate to perform duties including, but not limited to, conducting legal research on critical criminal law and procedure topics, drafting legal memoranda, advising command leadership on legal changes, communicating with NYPD Legal and Training Bureaus on compliance issues, liaising with personnel to review documents and Body Worn Camera video, training and advising division personnel on legal matters, recommending policy improvements, providing guidance on legal issues affecting the Early Intervention Program, and assisting in data gathering and preparation for internal compliance meetings.
