About The Position

The Ag in the Classroom Educator will provide coordination and program delivery to the students in the school districts who contract with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County. Program responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, coordination of educational activities and events, ordering of sufficient supplies and providing required financial tracking, and delivering programming to students within the classroom setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. (Associate’s Degree in relevant field and two (2) years’ transferrable program experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.)
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position.
  • A valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.
  • Transports youth participants to youth showcase events, trips, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, within the regular school calendar, as appropriate.
  • Coordination Skills - Ability to effectively coordinate program efforts including data management and reporting, scheduling and coordinating programs and events, compiling and maintaining materials and resources, following financial reporting requirements.
  • Program Skills - Ability to effectively delivery related programs and trainings.
  • Serve as an effective resource for program participants.
  • Maintain program participant data confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Communication & Marketing Skills - Ability to effective communicate verbally and in writing with program participants, volunteers, employees and others through a variety of media.
  • Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
  • Computer Skills - Proficiency or ability to learn and effectively use software including use of the internet, program related software, educational content delivery apps, and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or coursework in agriculture, education, human/youth development, or related topic area.
  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality educational programs utilizing established resources and materials to address identified programming priorities.
  • Occasionally apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational programming.
  • Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, field trips and distance learning to deliver programs.
  • Serve as subject matter resource, utilizing established program resources and materials, to provide information and resources to program participants.
  • Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences through frequent contact with school administration and faculty, program participants, parents.
  • Interact with school administration and staff, program participants, parents, and community always representing CCE in a professional manner.
  • Presents as a positive role model for youth participants in all program activities and programs.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.
  • Assist in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings.
  • Assist in multi-disciplinary and/or multi-association team efforts to design or analyze program evaluation.
  • Provide low complexity administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.
  • Assist Supervisor with planning and strategy development to strengthen and improve programs as necessary.
  • Assist with development of marketing strategies, public affairs and special events to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
  • Assist in identifying community and fiscal resources for program continuance and enhancement.
  • Provide Supervisory with program related information to assist the budget development process.
  • Assist with financial direction of program to including planning for program expenses and budgets.
  • Assist in developing communication strategies on particular program/function.
  • Provide low complexity administrative management of established educational program goals.
  • Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending, and planning for program needs and supplies.
  • Apply existing subject matter knowledge to compile and maintain teaching materials.
  • Coordinate, inventory, organize and prepare materials, equipment, reference materials, etc. for a variety of Ag in the Classroom and other Extension Association activities as assigned.
  • Accurately collect, prepare, and maintain paperwork, participant files and database as required by Supervisor, Association, and funding source requirements.
  • Maintain communication with constituents and the community through a variety of methods such as drafting for review by Supervisor, contributing educational articles to program newsletters, media releases, social media accounts, media interviews and website postings to increase program visibility and to address issues.
  • Support the Farm to School Newsletter social media pages adding updates to the CCE website as needed.
  • Send out household mailings/emails as needed.
  • Assist with program evaluation to include assisting in designing evaluation framework and collecting evaluation and needs assessment data from program participants.
  • Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
  • Effectively maintain relationships with appropriate volunteers, agencies, organizations, industries, and community leaders to promote the Ag in the Classroom program
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
  • This position may require the transport of self, program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
