About The Position

The Penobscot Bay YMCA is seeking an Afterschool Site Leader to manage their program at Ash Point Community School. This role involves creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children, leading daily operations, supporting a team of staff, planning activities, and fostering positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and YMCA staff. This position is ideal for individuals with experience in education, childcare, recreation, youth programs, coaching, or camps who enjoy leadership and a consistent weekday-afternoon schedule.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working with children in an afterschool, school-age, childcare, camp, recreation, coaching, or similar environment preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and maintain a safe and nurturing environment for children.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications are required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation of the YMCA Afterschool Program at Ash Point Community School.
  • Create a safe, positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for every child.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and support afterschool staff and volunteers.
  • Plan and lead engaging activities, including STEM, art, recreation, and enrichment.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with children, families, school personnel, and YMCA staff.
  • Maintain attendance, enrollment information, incident reports, and other required program documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, DHHS licensing requirements, child abuse prevention standards, and health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped program environment.
  • Assist with program supplies, inventory, equipment, and budget needs.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
