About The Position

The YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking an Afterschool Program Director to manage the site operations of Afterschool, Summer Camp, and special events at the Youth Services Center. This role involves daily oversight of programs, staff development, direct supervision of site staff, and consistent communication with community partners and parents. The position operates under the guidance of the Executive Director of Youth Services and aligns with the YMCA's mission and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study from an accredited body of higher education or equivalent work experience and education combination considered.
  • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid are required prior to the first day of employment.
  • Understanding and knowledge of children of all ages, their behavior and development.
  • Specific knowledge in the development of age-appropriate curriculum activities, the use of appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Strong organizational skills, prioritization of workloads to meet deadlines, detail orientation, and conscientiousness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills.
  • Organizational skills related to handling documents and associated paperwork.
  • Supervisory and administrative skills, including supervision of site staff and effective administration of the program.
  • Ability to provide leadership to other YMCA site staff in accordance with the YMCA mission.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Trainer certifications or obtained within six months
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) Passenger Endorsement or obtain within six months
  • Certification renewals are required as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive work environment for staff, including adequate training, recognition, and rewards.
  • Implement a results-based management approach and ensure the service line/department actively works towards association-level objectives.
  • Model inclusive management behaviors and embrace all dimensions of diversity by building strong teams.
  • Provide supervision for the program staff team, including orientation and ongoing support for group leaders, tutors, and volunteers.
  • Participate in the budgeting process and serve as a good steward of association resources.
  • Collaborate with association resources to develop and execute strategies to boost the Youth Services Center’s reputation and support the growth of childcare services.
  • Cultivate relationships with local stakeholders, parents, and community organizations to support fundraising and financial development initiatives.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the out-of-school-time programs.
  • Provide daily supervision and activities for a group of program participants.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Services Directors to ensure program activities comply with YMCA, state, and federal regulations.
  • Create, complete, review, update, revise, store, and maintain records as required.
  • Coordinate with school administration, teachers, and community partners to successfully implement the program and meet participants' needs.
  • Regularly assess program supplies, venues, and staffing and collaborate with Youth Services Directors to address identified issues.
  • Plan and implement meaningful opportunities for parent, family, and community engagement through daily check-ins, newsletters, and family events.
  • Follow established protocols to coordinate incident and emergency response.
  • Utilize standard business software systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams; Daxko Operations and Attendance Tracker) and hardware systems (laptops, printers, smartphones, 2-way radios) to accomplish daily administrative and operational tasks.
