About The Position

The Afterschool Program Assistant (Grades K-5) reports to the Day Care Coordinator and is responsible for supervising play activities, participating with children in group games, enforcing safety rules, and planning and implementing activities for their assigned group. This role involves assisting with program materials, communicating with the Coordinator about child behavior, supporting children in self-directed activities, and remaining with children at all times. The assistant will also help with serving snacks, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed, becoming knowledgeable of emergency procedures, preparing the facility for the next day, and maintaining accurate attendance records.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Completion of Red Cross 1st Aid training preferred
  • BSAC Certification preferred
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of program materials as requested by the lead teacher.
  • Communicates with Coordinator regarding difficult individual child behavior.
  • Assist children with self-directed activities.
  • Remain with the children in your care at all times.
  • Assist with serving snacks.
  • Follow licensing and school procedures to safeguard the health and safety of children in program, which include but are not limited to: hand washing; sanitary measures; playground and safety rules, and proper use of supplies and equipment.
  • Become knowledgeable of emergency procedures and assist in the supervision of required safety drills.
  • Be prepared to start work immediately upon scheduled arrival.
  • Prepare facility for use for the following day.
  • Follow correct procedure and record keeping process for receiving and discharging children in daily attendance.
  • Follow procedures as outlined in the Daycare Handbook.
