About The Position

The AfterSchool District Manager oversees Out-of-School Time (OST) program operations across two school sites. This is a hands-on leadership role that balances direct program delivery with staff supervision and multi-site coordination. The AfterSchool District Manager works daily with frontline staff, participants, families, school administrators, and community partners to ensure consistent, high-quality programming at both locations. This position requires strong organizational skill, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective working relationships with school personnel while keeping two programs running smoothly at the same time.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth in a childcare, afterschool, or camp setting, including at least 2 years directly supervising paid staff.
  • Must, within 120 days of employment, obtain and maintain a level 4 or higher certification on the NC School-Age Professional Scale, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications required prior to first day of employment; renewals required as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for travel between sites.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach and develop frontline staff .
  • Understanding of child development across age groups and the ability to use that knowledge as a resource with staff.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum development and behavior management techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences, including children, families, and school personnel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn program-specific software platforms.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and clearances.

  • A bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, environmental education, youth development, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of OST programs across two school sites.
  • Provide daily supervision and direct programming for a group of participants.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure all activities are planned and implemented in compliance with YMCA of Western North Carolina policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain strict compliance standards with all state and local regulatory agencies at both sites.
  • Create, complete, review, update, and maintain all required program records and documentation.
  • Follow established protocols to coordinate incident and emergency response.
  • Purchase and manage distribution of program supplies within budget.
  • Utilize standard business software and hardware systems (Microsoft Office Suite, Daxko Operations and Attendance Tracker, laptops, smartphones, 2-way radios) to accomplish daily administrative and operational tasks.
  • Supervise, schedule, and support frontline program staff across both sites, including ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
  • Maintain a positive work environment across both sites by providing consistent staff training, recognition, and coaching; assess individual progress toward program goals and KPIs and address development opportunities through regular one-on-one check-ins.
  • Implement a results-based management approach, assess progress toward identified goals and KPIs, and discuss development opportunities with staff regularly.
  • Build a cohesive team across two sites that applies diverse skills and perspectives to advancing the YMCA mission.
  • Coordinate with school administration, teachers, and community partners at both sites to implement programming that meets participant needs.
  • Maintain consistent, open, and supportive communication with parents, staff, and school personnel.
  • Address concerns and requests from parents, school administration, and other stakeholders; troubleshoot difficult situations with administration toward effective outcomes.
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful family engagement opportunities on a regular basis.
  • Facilitate integration of the YMCA program and mission into the school culture at both sites.
  • Monitor and promote participant recruitment to support optimal enrollment at each location.
  • Support the department in actively working toward association-level objectives, as measured by identified goals and KPIs.
  • Participate in the budgeting process and serve as a responsible steward of association resources.
  • Participate in YMCA of WNC leadership meetings and actively support the YMCA mission and vision.
  • Support the YMCA’s Annual Campaign through donor stewardship.
