About The Position

Trevor Frances Recruitment is partnering with a leading Canadian manufacturer in the molded foam industry to find an Afternoon Shift Supervisor. This role is for a hands-on manufacturing leader who enjoys coaching people, improving processes, and creating a safe, high-performing production environment. The ideal candidate thrives on the production floor, solving problems in real-time, developing teams, and making a measurable impact on safety, quality, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred (equivalent experience will also be considered)
  • 3-5+ years of manufacturing leadership experience in a Supervisor or Team Lead capacity
  • Experience within molded foam, plastics, composites, automotive, or high-volume manufacturing environments is highly preferred
  • Experience leading hourly production teams in either unionized or non-union environments
  • A demonstrated commitment to building strong safety cultures
  • Experience investigating incidents and conducting Root Cause Analysis
  • Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space procedures, and manufacturing safety protocols
  • Knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Experience with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar Quality Management Systems
  • Experience with NCRs, RCCA, 8D problem solving, SPC, and structured quality tools
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strong leadership and accountability
  • Excellent communication and coaching abilities
  • Production planning and scheduling expertise
  • Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example and foster a strong safety-first culture
  • Conduct shift-start safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Perform regular safety audits and floor inspections
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and identify root causes
  • Ensure compliance with PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safe work procedures
  • Partner with Health & Safety to implement continuous improvements
  • Support Joint Health & Safety initiatives and maintain regulatory compliance
  • Supervising daily production activities within a molded foam manufacturing environment
  • Coordinating labour, materials, equipment, and production schedules
  • Monitoring production metrics and responding quickly to operational challenges
  • Supporting mold changeovers, equipment start-ups, and shutdown procedures
  • Working closely with Maintenance to minimize downtime
  • Completing production reports and ensuring smooth communication during shift handovers
  • Driving Lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects
  • Coach, mentor, and develop production operators and team leads
  • Conduct regular performance discussions and provide ongoing feedback
  • Manage scheduling, attendance, and workforce planning
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees
  • Partner with HR on performance management and employee relations
  • Create an engaged, respectful, and accountable team environment
  • Lead daily shift meetings focused on safety, production, and quality
  • Monitoring in-process inspections and product specifications
  • Responding quickly to quality concerns and initiating corrective actions
  • Managing non-conforming materials and quality documentation
  • Participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action processes
  • Supporting ISO quality standards and audit readiness
  • Tracking quality metrics including scrap, rework, and first-pass yield
  • Promoting quality ownership throughout the production team
  • Champion 5S and workplace organization initiatives
  • Ensure environmental, health, and safety compliance
  • Complete production, maintenance, safety, and quality documentation accurately
  • Communicate shift performance and operational updates effectively to leadership
