About The Position

Kids in the Game is seeking energetic, organized, and team-oriented After School Site Directors for the 2026-2027 school year. This part-time position involves leading after-school programs for elementary school students, focusing on daily implementation, safety, and fostering an inclusive and enriching environment. The role requires supervising staff, managing operations, maintaining relationships with families and school partners, and ensuring program alignment with Kids in the Game's mission and values. The position is based in NYC schools, with required travel to the Kids in the Game office in Manhattan weekly and to schools for training. The role also offers potential for summer employment at a Kids in the Game summer camp.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or K-12 Education, Psychology, Social Work, Physical Education, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • At least 3-4 years of experience working with children ages 4-11 in academic or recreational settings (summer camp, after school, tutoring programs).
  • At least 2 years of prior leadership experience (leading a team of staff and/or programs with 50+ children).
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with different age groups (children, staff, parents) and partner with schools.
  • Ability to communicate at a high level by email, Slack, in-person, and on the phone.
  • Personal organizational skills to manage time and tasks independently, complete administrative record keeping and data entry.
  • Ability to problem solve quickly, communicate effectively, and display good judgment.
  • Up-to-date physical exam and tuberculosis test documentation required before starting.
  • Must pass Federal and NY State background checks and complete NYC Department of Education fingerprinting before starting.
  • Availability during after school hours Monday - Friday from September 2, 2026 through June 18, 2027.
  • Ability to be on-site by 2pm daily (or 1pm for half-day programs).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff, oversee day-to-day operations of the after school program, and maintain strong relationships with families, school partners, and internal departments.
  • Ensure the program aligns with Kids in the Game’s mission, values, programming, and quality standards.
  • Ensure program staff meet training and program quality expectations to provide positive experiences through homework assistance, enrichment classes, and sports/creative play.
  • Attend 1 office hour shift per week at the Kids in the Game Office (Thursdays, 10:00am - 1:00pm), including biweekly Site Director meetings.
  • Attend biweekly 1:1 meetings with the Program Manager and monthly 1:1 meetings with the People & Culture Department.
  • Participate in the 2026–2027 Professional Development series (September-May), including mandatory in-person workshops, virtual workshops, and Leadership Institutes, meeting a minimum of 30-35 training hours per school year.
  • Complete all required onboarding, orientation, and compliance trainings (Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment Prevention, TalentLMS modules).
  • Support new staff by modeling expectations, reviewing protocols, and ensuring they are trained on Kids in the Game policies.
  • Lead on-site training huddles with staff to reinforce policies and best practices.
  • Serve as the lead on-site representative, overseeing program structure, transitions, and schedules.
  • Report to the after school program by 2pm daily (or 12:30pm for half-day programs) and clock in via Paycom.
  • Supervise a team of 5–15 part-time staff, leading daily huddles and weekly team meetings.
  • Conduct regular program walkthroughs and observations to provide staff feedback and uphold quality.
  • Ensure high-quality programming, smooth transitions, daily schedules, and consistent staff performance.
  • Monitor, document, and address behavioral and safety concerns.
  • Facilitate parent and family communication and respond to incidents, questions, or concerns.
  • Provide daily and weekly updates to the Program Manager regarding program operations, enrollment, programming, supplies, incidents, staff performance, family engagement, and partner communications.
  • Design weekly and monthly program schedules and calendar of events.
  • Build engaging weekly schedules using Program Design resources and activities, adjusting for participant needs and site capacity.
  • Implement Kids in the Game Specialized Units and signature programming.
  • Plan and support staff in facilitating hands-on activities in STEM, art, team games, movement, and special events.
  • Align daily programming with monthly themes and ensure participants learn new skills.
  • Prepare and lead site-specific celebrations.
  • Support vendor relationships and coordinate enrichment instructor schedules and logistics.
  • Provide feedback to the Program Design team on activity implementation and participant engagement.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and schedule records using shared platforms (Paycom, Asana, After School Site Hubs, LineLeader).
  • Track daily data: attendance, drop-in enrollments, injuries/incidents, customer inquiries, staff absences/lateness.
  • Review and update staff timesheets weekly/biweekly in Paycom.
  • Communicate with internal departments via Slack, Gmail, and phone calls.
  • Post regular program updates via Slack and complete monthly newsletters.
  • Communicate with registered families through Aircall, Gmail, and company-approved channels.
  • Collect and share program feedback through surveys, Slack channels, and informal conversations.
  • Complete administrative tasks including collecting lesson plans and updating supplies/inventory logs.
  • Maintain an organized and clean office or storage space at the school.
  • Review annual program budget and plan spending for activities, events, supplies, and staff appreciation.
  • Purchase supplies in collaboration with the Program Manager and Operations Department, following protocol.
  • Track all purchases in the budget and submit receipts within 2 days.
  • Work with the Enrollment Coordinator and Finance Team to manage billing, collect payments, and reduce outstanding balances.
  • Manage family communications related to balances and outstanding payments.
  • Model inclusive practices and promote a culture of belonging for staff, families, and school partners.
  • Represent Kids in the Game at school-sponsored events, family meetings, open houses, and registration events.
  • Lead special programming efforts such as themed events, family engagement nights, and Parent Play Nights.
  • Work with the Program Manager and People & Culture Department to discuss staff ratios and scheduling needs.
  • Recommend coach placements based on skills and program fit.
  • Help onboard new staff by walking them through site routines, coaching practices, communication protocols, and daily expectations.
  • Provide regular reminders, feedback, and coaching to staff.
  • Document and address staff performance concerns or incidents in Paycom.
  • Administer staff performance reviews twice per year in collaboration with the People & Culture Department.
  • Complete a self-assessment twice per year and receive a supervisor assessment.
  • Monitor on-site safety of participants and staff, train staff on safety protocols, and intervene when incidents arise.
  • Complete daily incident and injury reports and follow the documentation and communication process thoroughly and in a timely manner.
  • Provide regular reminders about health and safety protocols.
