About The Position

The Andover Recreation Division’s Kid Care Program provides a safe, fun, and engaging after-school experience for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5, including games, activities, homework support, outdoor play, and enrichment opportunities. Site Directors oversee daily program operations at an assigned school, supervise and support staff, coordinate activities, ensure compliance with licensing and safety requirements, and build positive relationships with children, families, and school personnel. The program operates at all five Andover elementary schools. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in education, childcare, recreation, or youth programming who is ready to take the next step in leadership, staff supervision, program planning, and site management.

Requirements

  • Meet and maintain all applicable Massachusetts childcare licensing requirements for a Site Coordinator.
  • Candidates must be at least 20 years old.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology, or Child Care and have at least six months of experience working with school-age children.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in any field or an associate degree in one of the fields listed above and have at least nine months of experience working with school-age children.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of experience working with school-age children.
  • Experience leading staff or coordinating a childcare, recreation, education, camp, or youth-development program.
  • Strong organizational, communication, decision-making, and group-management skills.
  • Ability to provide clear direction, address concerns, and hold staff accountable for established expectations.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and coworkers from different backgrounds.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain and maintain certification as required.
  • Ability to complete all applicable pre-employment and licensing requirements successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Kid Care program at assigned elementary school.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment for children and staff.
  • Ensure the site operates in accordance with Massachusetts childcare licensing requirements, Kid Care procedures, and applicable school policies.
  • Plan and coordinate games, crafts, recreational activities, homework support, outdoor play, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Remain actively engaged in daily programming and assist with activities and coverage as needed.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and headcounts and ensure children are appropriately supervised throughout the program.
  • Support positive behavior and implement established behavior plans in collaboration with families, school personnel, and the Kid Care Director.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies in accordance with established procedures and complete required reports and documentation.
  • Supervise, guide, and support the Assistant Site Director, Group Leaders, and Assistant Group Leaders.
  • Assign daily staff responsibilities, prepare and communicate program plans, and ensure adequate coverage of activities and program areas.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, support, and feedback to site staff and communicate any performance concerns to the Kid Care Director.
  • Model professional conduct and serve as a positive example of established staff expectations.
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, families, school administrators, and program staff.
  • Communicate regularly with the Kid Care Director regarding staffing, participant needs, family concerns, school relationships, incidents, and overall program operations.
  • Collaborate with the Kid Care Program Coordinator on curriculum plans, program and space schedules, supply lists, and other operational needs.
  • Coordinate daily site setup, snack service, cleanup, and closing procedures.
  • Monitor program supplies and equipment and communicate purchasing or replacement needs.
  • Participate in required meetings and training and maintain all professional-development hours required by Massachusetts childcare licensing.
  • Support early-release days, school-vacation programming, family-engagement activities, and other Kid Care programs as assigned.
  • Provide support at other Kid Care sites when needed based on program and staffing needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
