About The Position

Every student deserves someone who believes in their potential. As a High School Tutor, you'll provide the academic support, encouragement, and individualized instruction that helps students build confidence, master challenging concepts, and achieve success in Math, Science, or English Language Arts. Whether you're a current classroom teacher looking to extend your impact beyond the school day or a retired educator who still enjoys helping students succeed, this is an opportunity to continue doing what you do best in a supportive after school environment. Working on an LAUSD high school campus, you'll provide targeted academic support in small groups, helping students strengthen their understanding, complete coursework, and build the confidence they need to reach their goals. This is a grant funded, seasonal position supporting high school students during the academic year.

Requirements

  • Twenty one (21) years of age or older.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential.
  • Experience working with teens in an educational, classroom, or tutoring environment.
  • Subject matter expertise in high school Math, Science, or English Language Arts.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to create a welcoming, supportive, and academically focused environment.
  • Current EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain required certifications as a condition of employment.
  • Completion of required health screenings and background clearances prior to working with participants.

  • Inspire students to stay motivated, develop positive study habits, and reach their academic goals through individualized instruction and encouragement.
  • Collaborate with YMCA Team Members to identify student needs, monitor progress, and celebrate academic growth.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with students while creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that reflects the YMCA's commitment to youth development.
