About The Position

Groves Literacy Partnerships and the Northside Achievement Zone are building a team of caring, dependable literacy tutors to support approximately 100 students across three North Minneapolis partner schools. Tutors will work consistently with the same students throughout the school year, building strong relationships while delivering structured, evidence-based literacy instruction. This is more than an after-school contract. It is an opportunity to become one of the trusted adults who helps a child build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and begin to see what they are capable of. The program is built around a simple but powerful idea: relationships first, then instruction. Students will work with the same tutor each week because meaningful learning begins when children feel known, safe, and supported.

Responsibilities

• Build consistent, encouraging relationships with a small group of students.
• Provide literacy tutoring to students in pairs using a structured instructional model.
• Support approximately 10 students organized into five tutoring pairs.
• Deliver consistent tutoring sessions throughout the week.
• Use curriculum, instructional materials, and progress-monitoring tools provided through the program.
• Help students strengthen foundational reading skills, including phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension.
• Communicate regularly with program and site contacts.
• Maintain reliable attendance and fulfill all agreed-upon tutoring sessions.
• Complete required orientation, training, and child-safety requirements.
• Create an environment where students feel respected, capable, and excited to return.
