After-School Cooking Instructor
About The Position
iCook After School is an innovative educational company that provides a fun, hands-on after-school cooking and nutrition education program for children aged K-4. The program focuses on teaching children to love food, cook and eat delicious and healthful dishes, and learn about different cultures and stories behind the food. We are looking for individuals who share our passion for education, food, and making a difference in children's lives. This is an opportunity to have a job that impacts children's lives while maintaining a flexible, part-time schedule with classes nearby. Our educators come from diverse backgrounds, including nutritionists, educators, stay-at-home parents seeking extra income, students, and chefs.
Requirements
- Experience working with large group of kids (can be in school setting, summer camp etc.)
- Enthusiastic about teaching, cooking and nutrition
- Effective classroom management skills
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged during the class
- Punctuality and reliability, with access to a reliable form of transportation
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire to meet school partnership regulations.
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead after school cooking classes for elementary students (K-4) while getting them excited about trying fun and creative recipes, new foods and encouraging them to learn about new cuisines and cultures
- Teach provided lesson plans related to basics of nutrition and healthy eating to kids in a fun and engaging way
- Introduce kids to basic cutting and measuring techniques, food safety, table manners and other concepts provided in the curriculum
- Purchase groceries for each class based on the recipes provided (reimbursement provided separately)
