About The Position
iCook/ iSTEAM After School is an innovative educational company that provides a fun, hands-on after-school cooking and nutrition education program for children aged K-4. The program aims to enrich children's lives by teaching them to love food, including cooking, eating healthy dishes, and learning about different cultures and stories behind food. The iSTEAM program focuses on hands-on and observable experiments, with instructors teaching provided lesson plans related to engineering, tech, chemistry, and science through art. The company is looking for individuals passionate about education, food, and making a difference in children's lives, offering a flexible, part-time schedule with classes in convenient locations. Educators come from diverse backgrounds such as nutritionists, educators, students, chefs, and stay-at-home parents seeking extra income.
Requirements
- Experience working with large groups of kids (e.g., in a school setting, summer camp).
- Enthusiasm for teaching, cooking, and nutrition.
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Energetic personality and ability to keep students engaged.
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Ability to stand and move throughout a classroom setting during program instruction.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and kneel as needed during program setup, instruction, and cleanup.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and transport program materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to load and unload program supplies from a vehicle, as applicable.
- Ability to travel to assigned program locations.
Responsibilities
- Lead after school cooking/STEAM classes for elementary students (K-4), engaging them with recipes, experiments, new foods, and teaching about cuisines and cultures.
- Teach provided lesson plans on nutrition and healthy eating in a fun and engaging manner.
- Introduce children to basic cutting and measuring techniques, food safety, table manners, and other curriculum-based concepts.
- Purchase groceries for each class based on provided recipes (reimbursement provided separately).
