About The Position

Roseville Area Schools has a vacancy for a cultural liaison to engage with students, staff and families to promote and support student achievement through bridging the gap between the culture at home and the learning environment; promote meaningful communication between home and school; and work with individual or small groups of students to become successful participants in their schools and communities. This is a school-year position working 32.5 hours per week, starting ASAP.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge and understanding of African-American culture
  • Knowledge and understanding of African-American culture
  • Ability to develop good relationships with students, families and staff
  • Experience working with students in a school setting
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Desire to provide assistance and advocacy to culturally diverse learners and their families to promote school success.
  • Desire to be a part of system change efforts to create more culturally aware schools and community services.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge information from schools on enrollment paperwork, attendance, school performance issues, school policies and procedures, health notices, conferences, teacher or administrative communications
  • Participate with families at school conferences and IEP meetings
  • Act as a communication liaison from parents to school or school to parents including home visits when appropriate.
  • Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district personnel as necessary on academic matters.
  • Promote family participation in school conferences and events
  • Promote student self-advocacy and relationship building
  • Organize culturally specific clubs and activities
