About The Position

Valkyrie Enterprises is hiring an Afloat NAMTS Coordinator/Inside Machinist Subject Matter Expert to support the Navy Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy (NAMTS) program and Ship Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The role combines deckplate leadership, hands-on machining instruction, and NAMTS program execution. The successful candidate will develop and evaluate Sailors pursuing journeyman-level Inside Machinist proficiency to strengthen fleet self-sufficiency, maintenance quality, and readiness. The coordinator implements the NAMTS Afloat program across assigned vessels, emphasizing the Inside Machinist competency pathway and coordination with shipboard leadership and regional maintenance activities. The role leads JQR and USMAP indoctrination, establishes training plans and qualification milestones with shipboard leaders, and provides practical instruction and evaluation in machining, fabrication, repair, inspection, and maintenance of shipboard components. It also supports precision inspection, CNC machining, and authorized additive-manufacturing evaluations. The position monitors candidate progress through qualification tasks, demonstrations, examinations, and oral boards; maintains audit-ready qualification records and performance metrics; and identifies training gaps and corrective actions. It ensures training and maintenance follow NAVSEA requirements, safety and quality procedures, technical directives, and approved FWPs and CWPs. The coordinator provides technical assessments, program updates, and risk briefings to Navy leadership and mentors Sailors and junior SMEs. The position requires an active DoD Secret clearance and a valid passport. Occasional travel of up to 35% is expected. Applicants traveling by domestic flight or accessing secure federal facilities or military bases must obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID, by the start of the position. Physical requirements include repetitive motion, climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, visual acuity and depth perception, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work is subject to physical conditions associated with shipboard maintenance. Employment offers are contingent on applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include background and employment checks, drug screening, driving-record review, security-clearance eligibility, and installation-access requirements.

  • Extensive hands-on O-Level and/or I-Level maintenance experience and proficiency with conventional machine tools, including lathes, mills, drills, boring machines, and grinding equipment.
  • Ability to interpret ship drawings, blueprints, technical manuals, and NAVSEA-approved references; apply geometry and trigonometry; and machine to specified tolerances, including 0.0001 inch when required by approved technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with CNC setup and operation, CNC program editing, Fanuc controls, MDI operations, and computer-aided manufacturing software such as Mastercam, including multi-axis milling centers and CNC lathes.
  • Proficiency in precision measurement and dimensional inspection of machined components using appropriate gauges, micrometers, indicators, and other inspection equipment.
  • Experience machining shipboard materials such as stainless steels, alloy steels, Monel, copper, brass, aluminum, and engineering plastics using appropriate tooling and machining parameters.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and objectively assess personnel performing maintenance and machining tasks, and communicate effectively with shipboard and program leadership.
  • Ability to execute work in accordance with FWPs, CWPs, applicable quality assurance and safety requirements, and accepted trade practices while exercising independent judgment within established guidance.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance and ability to maintain it.
  • Valid passport and ability to maintain it.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID, by the start of the position if travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities or military bases is required.
