About The Position

TDI, a part of Unison, a GE Aerospace Company, is a leading designer and manufacturer of turbine-powered start systems and turbine air motors. The Dayton, OH site is uniquely positioned to introduce the next-gen Air Turbine Starter for the CMF56-7B fleet and also produces Surface Coolers and Bellows for the aerospace industry. This role involves performing essential duties in service cells, including welding components and manufacturing operations according to specifications, blueprints, and manufacturing operations sheets (MOS). The position requires adherence to quality standards, basic housekeeping (5S), accurate paperwork completion, and understanding of safety and machining hazards. The role also involves producing error-free products, meeting production goals, and working within Lean Manufacturing guidelines. There is a requirement to undergo on-the-job training to obtain CVP certification within the first 6 months as an Associate Metal Joining Specialist. Compliance with all GE policies and the "Integrity: The Spirit and The Letter of Our Commitment" guide is mandatory. Team members are expected to keep others informed of work progress, timelines, and issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General education Degree (GED).
  • Successful completion of a TIG welding training course (formal or informal program).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.
  • Ability and willingness to weld complex components.
  • Ability and willingness to weld outside of home cell.
  • Must be able to work overtime, when required.
  • Able to read safety rules in the use and maintenance of shop equipment.
  • Able to read and understand specifications, be able to analyze and interpret technical procedures, blueprints and written instructions.
  • Able to read and complete forms to generate meaningful reports and charts.
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from team members, coaches and leaders.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions, decimals, and whole numbers.
  • Must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work with upper body extremities.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, or stoop on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds on occasion.
  • Items more than 30 pounds will be lifted with assistance.
  • Employee will be required to use approved chemicals and may be exposed to dust, fumes, or smoke from normal machining operations. (Not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL)).
  • Employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience welding aluminum.
  • Capability and willingness to work efficiently and provide training to other welders & CMOs in more than one area outside of your home cell (excluding specialized areas).

Responsibilities

  • Welds together metal components as specified by layout, blueprints, diagrams, or manufacturing operations sheet (MOS), using electric arc-welding equipment.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Manually applies filler rod to supply weld metal.
  • Cleans weld joint or work piece.
  • Prepares parts for welding.
  • Positions or clamps work pieces together or assembles them in a jig or fixture.
  • May tack assemblies together.
  • Verify fixture calibration.
  • Maintains eQuals requirements.
  • Use standards shop measuring devices (calipers and micrometers).
  • Basic housekeeping of cell (5S).
  • Review, understand and follow work instructions, required specifications and blueprints to perform manufacturing operations.
  • Ensures all company paperwork is filled-out accurately.
  • Fully understands blueprints.
  • Identify revision levels.
  • Produce error free products.
  • Meet production goals.
  • Work to established Lean Manufacturing guidelines.
  • Understand safety and machining hazards.
  • Have a basic understanding of welding and associated processes in one area within your home cell.
  • Willing to undergo on-the-job training in order to obtain CVP certification within first 6 months as an Associate Metal Joining Specialist.
