About The Position

This role is for a hardware assembly and testing professional who will make significant contributions to the nation's cutting-edge missile defense systems. The Aerospace Technician will work with a team of APL Engineers on target development programs, actively participate in industry/government working teams by interacting with sponsors, contractors, and APL staff, and oversee the fabrication of flight hardware or ground support equipment. The position also involves supporting the assembly and environmental testing of applicable hardware, traveling to meet with sponsors and contractors, and supervising the integration and test of flight hardware. Additionally, the role requires documenting procedures, interfacing with government agencies and flight test mission planners, and assisting engineers in the design of flight and ground support hardware.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hardware development, modification, and assembly experience
  • Understand the proper operation and application of tools, including torque tools, for proper equipment and system assembly
  • Ability to fabricate or modify needed tools or equipment for use in project tasks
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills to facilitate efficient use of stored equipment and tools in the execution of project tasks
  • Self-motivator and able to complete tasks without assistance or supervision
  • Problem solver and able to evaluate a situation or need, and devise a solution or path forward
  • Willingness to travel to sponsor, contractor, and peer organization facilities for test events, meetings, and reviews
  • Able to lift items up to 50 lbs and maneuver into tight spaces to execute needed tasks
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a full Secret level security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship
