About The Position

Protective Coatings Inc. is seeking an experienced Aerospace NDT Inspector - Level 2 for their Swing Shift. This role involves performing non-destructive testing, specifically fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) and magnetic particle inspection (MAG), to detect defects in aerospace parts. The Level 2 Inspector will work independently, make evaluations, perform process tests, document results, and may direct the work of trainees. The ideal candidate is self-disciplined, self-motivated, detail-oriented, adaptable, resourceful, and possesses strong business ethics and communication skills. Requirements

  • Ability to independently perform all duties of an NDT Helper and Level 1-Limited Operator.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to successfully pass a Jaeger eye exam with corrected or uncorrected vision.
  • Familiarity with codes, standards, and specifications such as NAS 410, BSS 7698, and BAERD GEN-012.
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation skills pertaining to aerospace production detail parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Basic mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone or as a member of a team, with good cooperative skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple priorities.
  • Must be fluorescent penetrant & magnetic particle inspection certified.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in non-inspection functions of the NDT department as an NDT Helper.
  • Formal and Practical training required for FPI and MAG Inspection (or both).
  • Minimum 400 hours FPI practical experience and/or 530 hours MAG Inspection practical experience.
  • 32 hours formal training in either FPI or MAG inspection.
  • General Standard education including the ability to read and write in English.
  • Level 2 NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) Certification from a previous employer for each NDT method practiced.
  • Prior training and experience must be verifiable and documented in writing by the previous employer or training agency.
  • Selected candidates will be subjected to examinations administered by the Responsible Level 3, including a vision test, a general exam, a specification exam, and a practical examination.

  • Develop procedures and establish techniques (i.e. technique cards) for Level 3 approval.
  • Assist in moving trainees through the established Level 2 qualification and certification process.

Responsibilities

  • Examines parts under fluorescent or black lighting to detect surface defects using FPI or MAG methods.
  • Reviews and assimilates work instructions related to cleaning, etching, dwell/develop operations, and inspection criteria.
  • Provides detailed information on processing techniques, findings, evaluation of indications, and part condition/disposition recommendations.
  • Sets up and calibrates equipment, conducts tests, and interprets, evaluates, and documents inspection results.
  • Performs receiving inspections and reports any damage or discrepancy.
  • Cleans and etches production parts in preparation for inspections.
  • Applies and removes fluorescent penetrant dye, and performs dwell and develop processing.
  • Performs non-inspection functions such as racking, masking, or cleaning of production parts.
  • Provides training on non-inspection duties to Trainees and Level 1-limited Operators.
  • Assists with and performs internal and external system audits, and CAPA implementation.
  • Complies with safety directives and policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Works closely with inspectors and area leadership to complete work and prioritize tasks.
  • Cleans, organizes, and maintains the work area.
