Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree with 5–10 years of professional experience.
  • Residency training in Aerospace Medicine. Related specialties such as Occupational Medicine or Preventive Medicine may be considered.
  • Expert knowledge of aerospace clinical and operational medicine.
  • American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board Certified Physician with successful completion of a Department of Defense-approved Aerospace Medicine Primary Course.
  • Experience providing preventive medicine, aerospace medicine, occupational medicine, and population health services.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using U.S. Air Force medical information systems, including AHLTA, MHS GENESIS, ASIMS, ADS, AIMWTS, and PEPP.
  • Ability to provide a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to the start of performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the mission, organization, and policies of USAFSAM and the 711th Human Performance Wing.
  • Experience serving as a MAJCOM Chief of Aerospace Medicine (SGP) or equivalent leadership role.
  • Publications in aerospace medicine, aviation medicine, occupational medicine, public health, or other peer-reviewed clinical journals.
  • ABMS Board Certification in Aerospace Medicine.
  • Experience with MEPS accession processes and Department of the Air Force/DoD accession and retention standards.
  • Knowledge of Aeromedical Waiver (AMWD) processes and Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide aerospace medicine subject matter expertise supporting the Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence (AWARE) team and Aerospace Medicine Waiver Division (AMWD).
  • Analyze medical, readiness, and operational data to support research studies, investigations, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Review and evaluate medical records to validate findings, develop research hypotheses, and assess relationships between accession medical conditions, disease progression, career outcomes, and operational readiness.
  • Serve as the primary medical subject matter expert for USAFSAM leadership, Department of Defense organizations, and multidisciplinary teams on aerospace medicine and operational health topics.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with Air Force medical record systems, standards, and authorized data repositories.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific publications, presentations, consultation documents, and other analytical products supporting operational medicine initiatives.
  • Participate in professional conferences through presentations, posters, and peer-reviewed publications to disseminate research findings.
  • Present study results and technical recommendations during meetings, briefings, and other government forums.
  • Support the development of written communications and knowledge transfer products for Air Force stakeholders and leadership.
