About The Position

This internship focuses on aerospace manufacturing, with potential exposure to three work areas: Bonding, Fabricating & Process Operation. The intern will perform routine developmental learning assignments and apply standard solutions to problems. The role involves assisting in various tasks related to material fabrication, assembly, and process operations, learning to read and interpret technical documents, and using various tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read and write the English language.
  • Learn to interpret and comprehend work instructions, blueprints and company policies and procedures and safety instructions.
  • Properly document work performed onto documents such as process planning, adhesive log sheets, Material Review Board documents, Engineering Work Orders, Change Notices, Engineering Process Specifications, technical manuals and like documentation.
  • Capable of using close tolerance measuring tools i.e. scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges as well as small hand tools, machinery and other similar tools.
  • Ability to complete respirator training, certification and fit test.
  • Must be clean shaven at the respirator seal.
  • Ability to learn tasks and processes that are not related to the primary job assignment.
  • Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required.
  • Those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in performing tasks associated with determining the method and sequences of operation for fabrication using various materials.
  • Assists in planning, fabricating and building adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and nonmetallic composite materials.
  • Fabricates composite and metal parts into subassemblies for pre-fitting in preparation for bonding/curing.
  • Performs vacuum bagging for Autoclave cures up to 100 psi.
  • Learns to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings.
  • Selects tooling and materials compatible with processing techniques.
  • Performs fabrication and assembly tasks following established methods and procedures.
  • Assists in layout, pre-fit and assembly and layup of metal to metal and composite bonded assemblies.
  • May layout and mark dimensions and reference lines on material.
  • Uses hand and power tools to complete required operations.
  • Trims parts to fit and files, grinds, deburrs, bevels edges, polishes surfaces, and otherwise finishes material, parts or assemblies to specifications.
  • Assembles detail parts into subassemblies and complete assemblies using written and verbal work instructions.
  • Installs simple rivets, bolts, screws and clips and prepares and applies adhesives.
  • Operates production machines and equipment such as bank saws, drill presses, and other like production machines.
  • Assists in reviewing production and process documentation, production scheduling and planning.
  • Assists in expediting the flow of material, parts and assemblies.
  • Reviews work instructions, operations manuals, blueprints and other documentation to define requirements for processing of parts or material to be cleaned.
  • Reads pick ticket to determine parts to be processed and ensures parts picked are correct.
  • Hangs parts on the process rack per instructions.
  • Assists in loading process racks onto the clean line conveyor for processing through cleaning and rinsing tanks.
  • Assists in selecting computer operating programs that control clean line equipment, monitors and makes adjustments as required.
  • Assists in monitoring chemical solutions in process tanks to maintain specified liquid level and chemical mixture.
  • Adds specified amount of chemical to solutions as directed.
  • Assists in draining, cleaning, and refilling process tanks with chemicals on a periodic basis.
  • Confirms right parts have been processed and kits are complete then distributed to appropriate areas.
  • Performs other duties as required, which may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.
