Aerospace Engineer - Flight Performance

SpaceWorks Enterprises•Atlanta, GA
•Onsite

About The Position

SpaceWorks is seeking aerospace engineers with expertise in Flight Performance and Trajectory Optimization to design and develop next-generation hypersonic flight vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, human and robotic spacecraft, and space re-entry vehicles. The role involves supporting a small multidisciplinary technical team and modeling, simulating, and designing high-speed flight systems, including airbreathing, re-entry, and launch systems. The engineer will perform trajectory design and optimization using state-of-the-art 3-DOF trajectory software; assess flight performance, including ΔV budgets, mass margins, and staging trade-offs; and use optimization methods to balance mission performance, safety, and system constraints. The role also includes multidisciplinary design optimization and analysis of mission trajectories through ascent, orbital operations, re-entry, and landing. The position is in-office at SpaceWorks’ Atlanta, Georgia facility, with telework days and flexible scheduling options available. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and immediately eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, including internships and research.
  • Experience in the design or modeling of hypersonic atmospheric vehicles, Earth-to-orbit launch systems, or human and robotic spacecraft.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with trajectory optimization software, CFD tools, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent simulation platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, collaborative environment with ownership and autonomy typical of a small business.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and immediately eligible to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of related aerospace industry experience contributing technically as an engineer, primarily in concept development, requirements definition, preliminary design, and detailed design.
  • High-level disciplinary experience with multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of high-speed flight and/or launch vehicle design.
  • Experience in relevant aerospace-oriented flight development programs, such as UAVs, missiles, or CubeSats.
  • Basic knowledge of Monte Carlo analysis, uncertainty analysis, or risk analysis.
  • Small-business experience.

Responsibilities
