About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Principal or Senior Principal Aeronautical Engineer in Edwards AFB, California. The position serves as a technical authority for integration and verification, building laboratory architectures from requirements, championing test readiness, integrating hardware and software interfaces, and delivering data that informs design and program decisions. This opportunity is contingent on program funding; the start date will be determined after funding confirmation.

The engineer performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses across total systems. Work may span concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. The role converts customer or product requirements into system solutions while accounting for technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and conducts functional and timeline analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to translate requirements into hardware and software specifications.

This is a full-time, on-site position with no remote, hybrid, or telework option. Travel of up to 25% may be required, and the employee must be available for odd shifts, including nights and weekends. An active Top Secret clearance is required at the start, and the selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain SAP clearance within a reasonable period as determined by business needs. The role also requires engineering qualification and maintaining currency with company- and customer-provided training.

The position may be filled at either the Principal or Senior Principal level. The company offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, flexible work arrangements, learning opportunities, exposure to varied projects and customers, and a friendly team environment.

Requirements

• Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance, with a background investigation within the past six years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
• Ability to transfer and maintain a final adjudicated U.S. government Top Secret clearance that is in scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation, and any program access required for the position, within a reasonable period as determined by the company.
• In-depth test experience, including running checklists, radio communications, working within a control-room hierarchy, and control-room monitoring.
• Demonstrated technical writing skills.
• Experience in software or system integration and software or system testing.
• Experience with testing, test-equipment use, and troubleshooting.
• Experience creating, updating, and executing test procedures.
• Principal level: Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional or military experience; or a master's degree and 3 years; or a Ph.D. and 1 year.
• Senior Principal level: Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional or military experience; or a master's degree and 6 years; or a Ph.D. and 4 years.
• U.S. citizenship is required for positions requiring government clearance.
