Sr. Enterprise Systems Engineer

Avalara•UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE

About The Position

Avalara is looking for a capable and collaborative AEM Front-End Developer to join our Adobe Engineering & Reliability team. In this role, you’ll contribute to the development of reusable, accessible components in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM Sites) that support Avalara’s global digital marketing efforts. You’ll work on a dedicated team focused on building and maintaining a shared component library used across our marketing websites. You'll apply your front-end development skills using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and HTL, and gain experience with build/deploy pipelines, testing, and analytics integrations. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues in Brazil, the United States, and India. This role is ideal for developers with some professional experience who are ready to deepen their AEM expertise in a structured, supportive team environment.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of front-end or full-stack development experience, including exposure to component-based systems or CMS platforms.
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with a strong understanding of responsive and accessible design.
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM Sites), particularly in front-end component development using HTL.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); able to work effectively with global teams.
  • Familiarity with unit testing frameworks for Java and front-end code (e.g., JUnit, etc).
  • Comfortable working in a Scrum/Agile environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • At least 4 - 5 years of relevant, progressive engineering experience with content management systems and web front-end frameworks.
  • Proven track record delivering across multi-system and multi-team initiatives, beyond single-component or isolated feature delivery.
  • Demonstrated, quantifiable use of AI tools to improve platforms, consistent with Avalara's AI Bar Raiser standard.
  • Hold themselves and others to high standards of technical quality, data integrity, and operational accountability.
  • Demonstrate strong judgment when making platform and technical tradeoffs, especially those that affect campaign performance, lead data quality, or system reliability.
  • Simplify complexity, translating ambiguous marketing requirements into clean, maintainable technical solutions.
  • Challenge assumptions respectfully and bring data into technical decisions.
  • Leave every system, process, and team they touch stronger than they found it.
  • You’ll bring experience using AI and AI-related technologies, ready to thrive here.
  • You’ll apply AI every day to business challenges - improving efficiency, contributing solutions, and driving results for your team, our company, and our customers.
  • You’ll grow with AI by staying curious about new trends and best practices, and by sharing what you learn so others can benefit too.

Nice To Haves

  • Raise the performance of those around them through mentorship, rigorous technical guidance, and clear documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Implement front-end components in Adobe Experience Manager, using HTL, Style Systems, and standard web technologies.
  • Collaborate with UX, design, and QA teams to deliver responsive, accessible, and visually consistent user experiences.
  • Contribute enhancements and bug fixes to the AEM component library, ensuring components are reusable and performant.
  • Integrate AEM components with Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target for performance tracking and personalization.
  • Participate in Agile development processes: planning, standups, retrospectives, and code reviews.
  • Follow engineering best practices for code quality, accessibility (WCAG), and test coverage using tools like JUnit, Jasmine, or Mocha.
  • Work with deployment tools via AEM Cloud Manager, supporting build validation and environment promotion.
  • Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., IDE agents, automated code generation, test case synthesis, automated MR review) in your daily development workflow.
  • Apply AI responsibly and securely, with attention to data governance given the customer-facing nature of the content platform.
  • Demonstrate quantifiable improvements in cycle time, velocity, test coverage, or reduction of defects through applied AI.
  • Share AI practices and tooling with peers to raise AI capability across the broader platform and content management function.
